Man in custody following family violence stabbing

A man is in custody and a woman is in hospital following a family violence incident last night.

The woman has multiple stab wounds, none of which are believed to be life threatening.

The man and the woman are both from Ulverstone.

The man was arrested at Boomer Bay near Dunalley after allegedly driving a car into water near Jetty Road at about 2.40am this morning.

The woman was also in the car.

Police had been searching for them after receiving information yesterday afternoon.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Richardson of Bellerive Criminal Investigation Branch said:

“The man was taken into custody and the woman was treated by officers at the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

“There is now an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.

Police have been speaking to residents and people in the area where the vehicle was found today and would like to hear from anyone who saw a silver Ford station wagon in the Boomer Bay area in the early hours of this morning.

Anyone who has information that could help the investigation is asked to call Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
