A man is in custody following an alleged assault in Risdon Vale this afternoon.

Police and emergency services were called to Sugar Loaf Road about 12.30pm following a report of a man being injured.

The alleged victim was located nearby and was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Another man was taken into custody a short time later and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police are seeking witnesses to the alleged assault, which occurred in the Sugarloaf Hill Road/Gardenia Road area.
