Man Charged with Serious Assault

Launceston CIB have today charged a 35 year Launceston man with Criminal Code Assault and Demand Property with Menace following an alleged incident at a private residence in Pioneer Parade, Ravenswood, earlier this year.

It will be alleged that the victim, a 25 year old man also from Launceston, was subjected to a violent and continued attack lasting several hours whilst being held against his will at the Ravenswood home.

Police will further allege that during this attack, the charged man continually demanded money from the victim. It is believed that the offender and victim were known to each other prior to this incident.
 “This was a serious and prolonged incident and the victim has only recently reported the matter to police,” said Detective Inspector John King.

“The investigation into this matter is continuing and we encourage anyone with knowledge of this crime or any related incident to contact Launceston CIB or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” he said.  

The 35 year old will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on 4 May. (via videolink)
