Man charged with historic sex offences

Police have charged an 82-year-old man with 20 sexual offences against young people committed in the 1970s and 1980s at properties belonging to Kennerley Children’s Home in Hobart. The man was a former senior employee of the home and is now of Sunbury, Victoria. He has been summonsed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on 9 December, 2016.
The charges relate to 12 complainants, all young teenagers, with the offences committed at four residences belonging to Kennerley Children’s Home in Claremont and Chigwell. The charges follow an extensive investigation by Glenorchy Criminal Investigation Branch.
The charges are:

– 7 x counts of maintain a sexual relationship with a young person under the age of 17
– 2 x counts of committing an indecent act directed at a young person under the age of 17
– 1 x count of sexual intercourse with a young person under the age of 17
– 10 x counts of indecent assault
