A 48-year-old Newnham man has been charged with graffiti offences after an incident in Elizabeth St, Launceston today (26/5/2018).

Police were called to attend Elizabeth St at about 1220pm in relation to reports of a male allegedly defacing a shopfront with paint and a paint brush.

Police located the man a short distance away and they will allege he had paint and brushes in his possession.

The man was charged with possessing graffiti equipment in a public place as well as marking graffiti.

He was bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court in July.

Police would like to thank members of the public who reported the matter and assisted in identifying the male.
