Man charged with firearms related offences following search at Levendale
Police have charged a man with several firearm related offences following a search at a property at Levendale earlier this month.
On 11 October, officers from Oatlands Police, Firearm Services, Drug and Firearm detection dogs and Operation Saturate attended an address at Levendale to conduct a search based on information received from members of the public.
During the search, police identified that several firearm storage offences were being committed. Police also located a substantial quantity of cash at the property, which was seized.
A 49-year-old man from Levendale has since been interviewed by police and will be proceeded against via summons for several firearm related offences including:
– Fail to comply with storage requirements of firearms
– Fail to comply with prescribed storage of ammunition
– Fail to comply with the conditions of a firearm licence.
Investigations remain ongoing relating to the cash seized from the property.
This is a timely reminder of the importance of registered firearm owners ensuring that firearms are stored in accordance with legislated requirements. Firearms that are not stored correctly are not only a threat to owners, but also the broader community.
Anyone with information in relation to illegal or incorrectly stored firearms is encouraged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 – police are always grateful for this information.
