Police have charged a 30-year-old man with criminal code assault in relation to an incident in Newnham on Monday evening.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene on Woodland Grove about 5pm, after a pedestrian was reportedly struck with a motor vehicle.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene before being taken to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

This was an isolated incident between people known to each other, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

The man has been remanded in custody to appear this evening before an after hours hearing at the Launceston Magistrates Court.
