An alleged assault was reported to police on 11 January 2018, where an elderly couple were walking the beach at Sandy Bay Beach and an altercation took place between them and a man who was walking his dog off leash on the beach.

As a result of social media coverage, a man attended Hobart Police Station today and was formally charged with Common Assault in respect of the incident.
