Man charged over setting off fireworks in residential area
A 41-year-old Zeehan man has been charged over illegally setting off fireworks this weekend.
The man was arrested and charged on Sunday evening after fireworks were set off over residential houses in Zeehan.
Further fireworks were then reportedly set off, and police executed a search warrant of a Zeehan residence today.
A quantity of fireworks was located and seized by police, and the man was arrested and charged a second time.
Senior Sergeant James Scicluna said fireworks can only be possessed with a permit because they are dangerous.
“Not only do fireworks disturb other residents, they also put properties at risk, with the potential to start fires.”
“Police would like to thank the community members who alerted us to this risky behaviour.”
The man will appear in the Queenstown Magistrates Court in January.
