Man charged over hooning incident in Queenstown

Police have a charged a 21-year-old man with several offences following an incident in Queenstown last night.

Acting Sergeant Brad Coulson said officers saw a blue Ford Falcon being driven recklessly, and the driver evaded police when they attempted to intercept him.

“This sort of driving behaviour is reckless and it puts innocent people at risk,” he said.

“Police are committed to keeping our roads as safe as possible, and hoons should be warned that this type of behaviour can lead to loss of licence, vehicle confiscation and significant fines.”

“The man was later arrested near Donaghys Hill and allegedly threatened police before being charged with hooning and offences against police.”

“Police would like to thank the Queenstown community for its assistance in providing information that lead to the apprehension of the man.”

“His vehicle has been seized by police, and an application will be made to have it permanently confiscated.”

Anyone who witnessed, or has dash cam footage of, a blue Ford Falcon station wagon being driven in a reckless manner around Queenstown on Wednesday evening is asked to contact Queenstown Police on 131 444.
