Man charged over armed robbery

Approximately 21:40hrs Friday 17 June 2011 a pizza delivery driver was seated in his vehicle in Alexandra Road, Ulverstone, when he was approached by a male person.

It’s alleged the male was armed with a pair of scissors and threatened to stab the driver if he did not get out of the vehicle.   The driver was pulled from the vehicle, and the male got in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, a silver Subaru station wagon. 

It’s alleged a second male has got in the front passenger side and the driver has accelerated towards the intersection of Alexandra Roadand Main Street.  The males then turned right and were last observed proceeding east on Main Street, Ulverstone.

Approximately 12.25 am18 June 2011police located the Suburu on fire in the grounds of the DelorainePrimary School.  The vehicle was destroyed.

The victim did not receive any injuries as a result of the incident.

On Tuesday 21 June 2011police arrested and charged a 21 year old Deloraine man.  The 21 year old male appeared in an after hours court sitting at the Devonport Magistrates Court  on 21 June 2011.  He was remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Courtvia video link at 2.00pm22 June 2011.

Enquiries are continuing and police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or two males acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Alexandra Road and Main Street, Ulverstone during the evening of 17 June 2011.
