Man charged following shooting incident in Risdon Vale
Detectives from Bellerive CIB have this evening charged a 28 year old Risdon Vale man with offences relating to a shooting incident in Tecoma Road early this morning.
The incident took place at a residence approximately 4:30am this morning. A 31 year old Warrane man received a non-life threatening injury to his forearm as a result of being shot by a firearm. The 28 year old alleged offender was taken into custody just after 6:00am. It will be alleged the men knew each other.
The scene was attended by uniform police, Forensics, Ballistics and Detectives and evidence collected as a result of examinations. A Tasmania Police remotely piloted aerial device (drone) was used to map the scene and an explosive detection dog was deployed to search for the weapon used in the incident. The firearm used in the crime has not yet been recovered.
The alleged offender was later interviewed by detectives before being formally charged in connection with the incident.
The man was detained in custody and will appear in court tomorrow.
It is also timely to remind people that there is a permanent firearms amnesty in Tasmania, which means that people who voluntarily surrender firearms to police will not be charged in relation to possessing firearms.
