Man Charged Following Mowbray Serious Assault
Launceston CIB has charged a 39-year-old Mowbray man following a serious assault in Invermay around 2.20pm yesterday.
Police will allege the man entered a residence on Oswald Street and assaulted a 90-year-old woman. She was knocked unconscious during the assault and later transported to the Launceston General Hospital with a serious facial injury.
Police will also allege that the offender assaulted a 66-year-old man in the rear yard of the Oswald Street residence. The man received facial injuries and provided first aid to the elderly woman until emergency services arrived.
Following the assaults, the offender fled the Oswald Street residence and police allege he then forced entry to a residence on Mann Street in Invermay where he was apprehended by police.
During the arrest, police allege the offender punched a uniformed Constable multiple times resulting in minor facial and hand injuries requiring medical treatment at the Launceston General Hospital.
The offender was charged with numerous offences including Aggravated Burglary and Assault. He will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at 11.30am today.
