Man charged following Devonport incident

A 47 year old Devonport man has been charged in relation to an incident in Victoria St, Devonport, overnight.

 

Police were called to a residence in Victoria St about 6pm last night following a complaint from a member of the public about damage to a neighbouring property.

 

Police allege the man barricaded himself in his residence armed with a chainsaw during the incident. Police also allege the man threw glass bottles at police during the incident.

 

Police set up a cordon around the man’s residence, utilising units from Devonport, Latrobe, Ulverstone, Deloraine and Devonport CIB.

 

Members from Western Negotiation Unit attended and commenced negotiation and after a period of time, entry was gained to the residence and he was arrested about 11pm without further incident.

 

No one was injured and no firearms were involved during the incident.

 

The man has been charged with Destroy Property, Assault, Threaten Police, and Assault Police.

 

The man remains in custody and is due to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court at 11.30am.
