A 53-year-old man has been charged with high-range drink driving and had his licence disqualified for a period of 12 months this afternoon after returning a breath alcohol reading of 0.180, almost four times the legal limit.

The driver was initially detected travelling at 136km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Arthur Highway, Dunalley about 2:00pm.

After being intercepted, the driver returned an initial alcohol reading of 0.204 and was found to have a suspended driver’s licence.

Constable James Blay of Nubeena Police Station said “Drink driving and speeding are both fatal five contributions to serious and fatal crashes on our roads and with the wet weather and reduced visibility, there is an even greater risk posed to road users.”

The man has been charged with several traffic-related offences and has been bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.
