Man arrested for the 2006 murder of John Thorn at Lake Leake

Tasmania Police Cold Case Unit detectives have today arrested and charged a 58 year old Lake Leake man with the August 2006 murder of John Lewis Thorn, aged 59 years, also of Lake Leake, in bushland near Lake Leake.

The officer in charge of the Cold Case Unit, Detective Inspector Glenn Lathey, said the arrest was the culmination of a lengthy investigation involving considerable policing resources and personnel from around the state, including Forensic Science Services Tasmania personnel.

The man is due to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at 7pm tonight (2 November 2010) charged with one count of murder.

Police will allege the man shot Mr Thorn once to the back of the head with a .22 calibre rifle in bushland near Lake Leake on Thursday 24 August 2006.
