Man and woman in custody following Trevallyn incident

A 24 year old man and a 40 year old woman are in police custody and assisting with enquiries after a siege in New World Avenue, Trevallyn, overnight.

Commander Brett Smith said today that the pair was safely taken into custody about 9.50am following a tactical resolution to the 16-hour siege. No one was injured during the incident.

Commander Smith said that the tactical resolution was employed after the situation escalated in a very short space of time.

“It was always our intention to resolve the situation peacefully and we were committed to using a range of strategies and resources to manage a peaceful resolution. However there came a point where police were of the strong view that the woman’s life was in imminent danger,” Commander Smith said.

“As a consequence, we employed a tactical resolution whereby police risked their lives to save the life of another and they should be commended for their courage and actions.”

Police would like to thank the Trevallyn community for their patience and understanding over the course of the incident.

“Police would like to thank local residents who assisted us by evacuating their residences and being supportive of our efforts to resolve the incident,” Commander Smith said.

“This was a difficult situation for all involved, especially the residents and the attending emergency services. The residents can be reassured that their suburb will be returned to normality shortly.”

Police investigations into the incident are continuing. Police attended the residence about 4pm yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation.
