Man airlifted from Safety Cove

At approximately 11:30am on Sunday 24 April 2011 Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Police were notified of a 54 year old Rosetta man who was suffering from respiratory problems in Safety Cove, near Port Arthur.

The man had been scuba diving when the medical condition occurred and he made his way to the rocks at the southern end of the bay. The alarm was raised by his companions who were still on a nearby boat.

Due to difficulty accessing the patient the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter was activated. Upon the helicopter’s arrival at the scene an Intensive Care Paramedic was winched to the location. The patient was then treated for a short period of time before being winched into the aircraft and flown to the Cenotaph.
