Male Detected at High Speed on Bass Highway

In the early hours of Saturday morning on 2/8/14 a commodore sedan was detected travelling at 170km/h in the 100km/h zone along the Bass Highway near the Stanley turnoff. The vehicle was immediately intercepted and it was ascertained that the 18 year old male driver from Smithton was the holder of a first year provisional licence which included the condition of an 80km/h maximum speed limit.

Due to the excessive speed the commodore was conveyed to a residence at Smithton where it was fitted with a vehicle immobilising clamp for a period of 28 days. The driver will be summonsed to appear in court for high range speeding and hooning offences.
