Lucille Butterworth Case

The assertions of Mr Don Hazell, that have been published in the Tasmanian Times article this morning, 28th July 2014, are not news to the investigators who have worked the Lucille Butterworth case.

Mr Hazell has contacted police a number of times over the years and his assertions have been reviewed continuously and thoroughly.

Mr Hazell initially approached police in 1987 claiming to have discovered human remains at the Kingston location in 1974. At that time investigators ruled out an excavation on the site. However upon further contact with Mr Hazell in 1999 the site was fully excavated and the claims revisited by investigators.

In 2007 Mr Hazell contacted police again and re-indicated the site, previously excavated in 1999. It was determined not appropriate to conduct any further excavations on that same site.

A detailed review of all the available info from Mr Hazell and others, in particular the accounts provided in 1987 and 1999 and 2007, does not give police cause to expend further examination of the Kingston site.

The police investigation file is with the Coroner for review.
