Longford Motorcyclist detected at 101 km/h over the speed limit
A 25 year old Longford man has been arrested after being detected by police riding a motorcycle at 101 km/h over the speed limit in Wellington Street, Longford on Tuesday 26 January.
At 6:00pm that day, police detected a black Suzuki motorcycle travelling at 161 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The motorcycle evaded police at the time. With assistance from members of the public, the male rider was located at an address in Longford soon after.
Checks conducted by attending police revealed that the male was not the holder of a driver’s licence and his motorcycle was unregistered.
He was arrested and charged with numerous traffic offences including speeding and evade police. His motorcycle was also seized by police for 6 months.
Constable Chris Jackson from Campbell Town Police said:
“The rider of the motorcycle showed little regard for other road users and pedestrians by travelling at such a high speed on this busy street.”
“I would like to thank the members of the public for their assistance in locating the rider who may not have been located before his behaviour had a potentially disastrous outcome.”
