Let’s keep each other safe this long weekend
Police are calling on Tasmanians to keep each other safe this long weekend, as we enter Stage Two of our Coronavirus recovery.
“We want people to enjoy themselves as they return to doing many of the activities Tasmanians love, like visiting shacks, going fishing and socialising in restaurants and pubs, but we all need to do so safely,” said Assistant Commissioner Operations Jonathan Higgins.
“We’re asking Tasmanians to make sure they’re adhering to the restrictions that are still in place, keeping a safe distance from others wherever possible and being courteous to those around them as we enter this next phase.”
“With many more people expected to be on our roads, we’ll be keeping a close eye on motorists travelling around the state.
“We’ll have road safety enforcement operations at various locations focusing on the ‘Fatal Five’ contributors to serious and fatal crashes: speeding, seatbelts, alcohol and drugs, distraction and fatigue.
“We’ll also be out across Tasmania’s entertainment districts, making sure people are acting responsibly around licenced venues.”
Police will also continue to conduct compliance checks on those Tasmanian residents who have returned to the state and are required to quarantine at home.
