A learner rider will be disqualified for at least 4 months after he was detected travelling at excessive speed on the Bass Highway at Westbury yesterday.

Around 5pm, members from the Northern Road Safety Task Force detected a green Kawasaki travelling at 129km/h in a 110km/h zone where it was intercepted.

The learner rider, who is restricted to a maximum speed of 80km/h, was traveling at 49km/h above their applicable speed limit.

The 20-year-old man from Miandetta has been issued with an infringement notice for traveling at 45km/h or more above the limit, which attracts a monetary penalty of $994.75, 6 demerit points and a disqualification period of 4 months.

Police urge motorists to slow down, obey all speed limits and speed restrictions regarding their licence.

Speeding is one of our ‘fatal five’ contributors to both serious and fatal crashes and travelling at such speeds put many lives at risk, particularly when they are inexperienced.

Police will continue to conduct hi-visibility patrols on highways and main roads to ensure road users adjust their driver behaviour and help makes our roads safer.
