Learner motorcyclist caught speeding 63kmh over the limit

A high speed learner motorcyclist detected travelling 63kmh over the speed limit on the Bass Highway at Wynyard has automatically lost his licence.

Sgt Steve Keiselis said that the 17 year old rider was detected travelling at 143km per hour in the 100km zone.

“Being a learner rider, the motorcyclist only had an 80km limit. This indicates an inexperienced motorist with little regard for responsible road users,” Sgt Steve Keiselis said.

“What makes this behaviour worse is the young rider was travelling through traffic.

“It serves as a timely reminder that the road is not a race track and risky behaviour will be dealt with appropriately.  I commend the work of the officers involved who were able to turn and safely intercept the rider responsible without posing further risk to themselves or other road users.”

The rider will be proceeded against by police and is facing heavy fines, and an automatic loss of licence.
