Launceston Traffic Operation focused on safe vehicles and drivers

Tasmania Police is urging all drivers to ensure they do the right thing on the roads, and that their vehicles are roadworthy, particularly as we move into wetter months.

“Following a tragic number of crashes on Tasmanian roads over the last year, police have conducted a number of traffic operations across the state in the past week, aimed at improving driver behaviour,” said Inspector Darren Hopkins.

“Police will be conducting a traffic operation on the East Tamar Highway today, focused on vehicle compliance and driver license checks.

“A number of traffic enforcement activities will be undertaken at the operation, including vehicle compliance checks, vehicle defect checks, licence checks, oral fluid testing and random breath tests – to ensure all vehicles and drivers on our roads are safe.

“While most Tasmanians do the right thing on our roads, it’s disappointing that there are still some motorists who continue to do the wrong thing – which puts themselves and others at unnecessary risk of crashing.

“There are fines for disobeying the road rules, but the real penalty could be seriously injuring or killing yourself or someone else in a crash.”

Today’s operation supports the commitment of Tasmania Police, to making the roads safer for all road users, by improving driver behaviour and vehicle safety, to reduce crashes on our roads.

“I urge all motorists to do the right thing every time they travel on the roads, and to ensure their vehicle is safe and roadworthy.”
