Launceston flood advice

Tasmania Police wish to advise residents of the Invermay and Inveresk areas in Launceston that flood waters in the North and South Esk Rivers continue to rise and that there is a possibility that the evacuation of low lying areas may be required.  In the next three hours a decision to evacuate will be made by the police in the interests of protecting people living, working and visiting the area.

Residents in the Invermay / Inveresk areas are currently receiving a flood information package via SES volunteers and Australia Post which contains information on how to prepare homes for a major flood. The information kits also contain the location of evacuation centres.

In the event that an evacuation is required, flood evacuation sirens will sound in the Invermay / Inveresk areas and residents will be warned of the probable need to evacuate police and SES officers.

There will be further details to follow.
