Launceston detectives charge Summerhill man with sex offences

On Monday 20 June 2016 Launceston Detectives arrested a 24 year old man from Summerhill, Launceston and charged him with multiple sex offences.

The man was remanded during an out of hours court sitting Monday evening and will again appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at 11.30am today.

Police will allege that the man initiated contact with the three underage victims via social media in February 2016.  He then arranged to meet with them and committed various crimes against them.

The man was charged after an ongoing investigation by Launceston CIB which commenced in May this year. The investigation resulted in the identification of two further alleged victims.

The man has been formally charged with the following crimes:

Rape x 3

Abduction x 1

Possess child exploitation product x 1

Detective Inspector John King said: “It is a timely reminder for parents to monitor internet traffic where possible and for younger members of our community to resist accepting friend requests from people they don’t know.”
