Launceston businesses targeted

Launceston business owners are being asked to ensure their premises are secure with thieves targeting 27 Launceston businesses in the past month stealing a “substantial” amount of cash.

“If your business premises has an alarm system – turn it on when you leave, don’t make it easy for burglars,” said Detective Sergeant Darren Turner.

“Detectives from Launceston CDI are currently investigating a series of burglaries committed on businesses in the Launceston CBD and Invermay over the past 4 weeks.

“These crimes are being committed at night, primarily between the hours of 10pm and 2am with money being the obvious target.”

Det. Sgt Turner said it was essential businesses were secured with good locks, alarm systems and security cameras were actually switched on and cash was not left accessible inside the premises.

“We would strongly advise that no money is kept on premises unless it adequately secured within a locked safe,” he said.

Detectives are interested in seeking the identity of the male person depicted in the photos after he was captured on surveillance cameras in the area of the Quadrant Mall Launceston on 21 March 2013.
