Launceston Airport Incident

Tasmania Police today responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Launceston Airport.

The vehicle, a sedan, had been left in the ‘drop off/pick up’ zone this morning, and the driver had caught a flight to Melbourne and connected to an international flight.

Inside the vehicle, a bag was observed to have a wire protruding from it.

The Tasmania Police Bomb Squad responded as a precaution. Investigations revealed the driver had borrowed the vehicle from a friend, who advised police that the wire was likely to be a mobile phone charger and this was confirmed by the Bomb Squad.

“There was minimal disruption to the operation of the Launceston Airport; one flight was briefly delayed. We thank the public for the patience,” said Inspector Scott Flude.

“We continue to ask the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity; it’s far better for police to respond to a matter that turns out to be innocent and is resolved without incident.”
