Investigations into child exploitation material
Detectives from the Tasmania Police CIB and e-Crime Investigation units are part of an international investigation into the accessing of child exploitation material.
The Toronto Police Service led the investigation into a Canadian-based child exploitation website and the people using the site to access material.
The details of Australian users were passed on to Australian Federal Police (AFP). The AFP referred the details of a number of Tasmanian-based users of the website to Tasmania Police for further investigation.
Since September, Tasmania Police have conducted searches in Burnie, Devonport and Hobart, and several small communities in the North West.
Various computers and associated memory storage devices have been seized and the e-Crime Investigation detectives are reviewing the evidence.
Investigations continue.
