Investigations continuing into George Town firearms incident

Investigations are continuing into a firearms incident in George Town this morning.

Acting Inspector Jason Jones said police have arrested a 45-year-old Prospect man, after a 40-year-old man reportedly received a single gunshot wound to the chest outside an address on Davidson Street, shortly before 4am.

“The victim then went to an address in Davies Street to seek assistance,” he said.

“He is reported to be in a stable condition in intensive care, and will likely be taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for ongoing care.”

“The alleged offender was arrested by police in George Town about 7am, and safely taken into custody.”

“Initial investigations indicate the offender and victim are known to each other, and this is an isolated incident with no risk to the broader community.”

“Police, including detectives, remain at the scene gathering evidence, and several items including firearms have been located.”

“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police, or Crime Stoppers anonymously”
