Smithton Police are investigating an incident in which two animals were severely mistreated.

This morning, police responded to a call from a distressed woman who had found two ferrets in her letterbox. The animals had been mutilated.

The woman took the animals to the vet and they were put to sleep.

Investigations are underway and Police would like to hear from anyone who might have information about the incident.
