Injured Walker
A 67 year old woman bushwalker was assisted to safety by SES and Fire Brigade volunteers after she suffered lower leg injuries while walking on the East Coast.
Police were contacted by her husband shortly after lunch.
A Police officer and an Ambulance Service Paramedic accompanied her husband back to the injured woman who was located on the Humbug Point walking track near Binalong Bay.
The couple who were both experienced bush walkers were well prepared and had been walking for about an hour when the accident occurred.
The Paramedic cared for the injured woman until local SES & Fire Brigade volunteers arrived to carry her to a nearby beach where police transported her by boat to a waiting ambulance on the other side of Georges Bay.
She was treated at the St Helens Hospital for lower leg injuries and transferred to Launceston Hospital for further tests.
The woman is expected to make a full recovery from her injury.
