Injured Bushwalkers on Overland Track
On the 16th October 2013, a 24yo male and 44yo female injured themselves whilst walking the Overland Track on the Western Tiers. Both walkers were part of the one party which had split into two groups along the way. Ironically both injuries occurred within minutes of each other.
The 24 year old male was near Kia Ora Hut at the time of his incident while the 44 year old female was near Pelion Hut when she sustained her injuries.
Neither walker was believed to be suffering life threatening injuries.
The Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter was tasked to evacuate both injured walkers however was unable to fly to the scene due to bad weather.
This morning, 17th October 2013, the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter departed Hobart and collected both injured walkers who were flown to the Launceston Airport and transported to the LGH by ambulance.
