A letter recently sent to Tasmania Police applicants contained a factual error relating to the recruit intake for 2011.

The letter from Recruiting Services stated Tasmania Police will not be conducting a Recruit Course this year.  At this time, future course dates have not yet been set.

The recruit course due to start in March has been postponed until such time as the 2011/2012 budget situation is known.

A decision has not been made in relation to when the next recruit course may begin, as the department is in the process of assessing the impact of the budget situation.

The Government has not quarantined police numbers and, at this stage, an impact on police numbers can not be ruled out. However, it’s inappropriate to speculate on what the impact might be until we have had an opportunity to fully assess the situation and formulate our responses accordingly.

Recruiting Services misinterpreted the information in its letter to applicants and will write to them again to clarify the situation.
