Incident at the Royal Hobart Hospital

At about 9:45am on 14 January 2016, Police responded to a call for assistance at the Royal Hobart Hospital.  On arrival, police ascertained that a man and woman had allegedly assaulted 3 staff members on the first floor of the hospital.  Inquiries suggest the man and woman wished to remove a patient against the advice of medical staff.

As a result of not agreeing with the medical advice provided, the man and woman resorted to violence and allegedly assaulted 3 hospital attendants.

Police responded directly from the Hobart Station and discovered the man and woman being restrained by attendants.

Both people were taken into custody by police and are currently being detained whilst further investigations are being carried out.  Both the man and woman are related to the patient.

Acting Sergeant Daryn Splann of the Hobart Police said, “Fortunately none of the attendants were seriously injured and order was restored quickly.  It is likely that charges will be laid against the two later today.”
