INCIDENT AT CEDAR STREET, NEWNHAM

Approximately 9.30am this morning, police were alerted to a 35 year old male in a residence in Cedar St, Newnham holding a woman and 2 children under threat. Police attended and were unable to negotiate entry to the residence. There were strong indications that firearms were involved.

Specialist police resources were called in to assist with negotiations and containment of the residence.  Approximately 12.20pm the woman and children safely exited the residence.

Negotiations are continuing with the man who remains in the residence alone.  A number of nearby residences have been evacuated as a precaution. Police have full control of the incident site.
