Inattentive Driving And Using Mobile Phone Whilst Driving – Reminder
With school terms for the year concluding and in the lead up to Christmas, traffic congestion is increasing and is already noticeable in the Hobart CBD.
This morning police from Hobart Uniform Division conducted a 90 minute traffic operation in the Hobart CBD specifically targeting motorists using their mobile phones whilst driving.
31 motorists intercepted were issued with infringement notices.
“Driving Whilst Using a Mobile Phone and Inattentive Driving are part of the Fatal Five contributing factors to Serious and Fatal Crashes on Tasmanian roads,” said Sergeant Greg Rogers.
“It is disappointing that a large number of motorists continue to use their mobile phones whilst driving.”
“Safety on Tasmanian roads is a priority for police and we will be conducting regular traffic related activities in the Hobart CBD over the holiday period.”
