House destroyed by fire in Mayfield

A residence in Mitchell Street, Mayfield, which is at the centre of a murder investigation, has been destroyed by a deliberately lit fire during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Residents in Mitchell Street, Mayfield alerted the Tasmania Fire Service at about 3.40am on Sunday morning after they heard loud banging and then observed the house being engulfed in flames.

Tasmania Fire Service Personnel and Detectives from Launceston CIB have conducted an assessment of the fire and determined that it was deliberately lit.

The house was completely destroyed and will require demolishing.  It is estimated that the value of the house is approximately $250,000.  The residence was not occupied at time.

Detectives are investigating any possible links between the fire and the murder of Tyson Clark who went missing in July 2016.  Police believe that they located the remains of Tyson buried in the backyard of this residence on Tuesday 11 April 2017.   Three people have been charged in connection with his murder.

Police are asking that anyone that may have any information relating to the fire to contact Tasmania Police on 131444 or on Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or online via www.crimestopperstas.com.au
