House destroyed in blaze at Dilston

At about 3.40am on Saturday 28 January 2017 Police and Fire crews were alerted to a house fire at an unoccupied residence in the Northern township of Dilston.

When units from Tasmania Fire Service and Police arrived the building was well alight and the fire took several hours to bring under control.   The house has been completely destroyed and was valued at around $350,000.

Tasmanian Fire Service Personnel and Detectives from Launceston CIB have conducted an assessment of the fire and determined that it was deliberately lit.

Detective Sergeant Peter Roberts said ‘This is a quiet area.  The fire does not fit with any current crime patterns that we are aware of and we think that the public can be comfortable that it is a one off, isolated incident’.

Police are asking that anyone that may have any information relating to the fire or who saw any vehicles or anyone in the area at the time the fire was reported to contact Tasmania Police on 131444 or on Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
