Hot Day Response

Tasmania Police, in consultation with Tasmania Fire Service, has implemented a Hot Day Response for Saturday 6 January 2018.

A Hot Day Response is declared when conditions require a heightened level of readiness and preparation on high fire danger days.

Tasmania Police will support the TFS tomorrow with the implementation of a number of pro-active strategies to reduce the risk of a deliberately lit fire, particularly in high-risk areas.

These will include visiting past arson offenders during the high risk period and high visibility patrols around areas of bush/urban interface and potential high fire risk.

Police and the community have an important role to play in the prevention of deliberately lit bushfires.

Tasmania Police are also requesting the assistance and vigilance of the community on days of hot weather conditions and total fire bans.

If you see anyone acting suspiciously near bushland please contact the Police Assistance Line 131 444.

Timely information including descriptions of people and vehicle registrations in the area concerned, is invaluable in the investigation of deliberately lit fires.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au
