Homes targeted
In the last 4 weeks there has been a marked increase in the amount of home burglaries occurring in the Bellerive, Rosny, Lindisfarne and Geilston Bay areas. These burglaries have been committed during daylight hours. Cash, jewellery and electrical items seem to have been targeted.
On one occasion a male offender has offered to paint the outside of a house for a cash job. This male person has returned to the residence later in the week and committed a burglary and stealing.
This male person is described as mid 30’s, 183cm, slim build, short brown hair, scruffy appearance with badly decayed front teeth. He was apprehended on 15 October 2012 where he admitted entering and stealing from houses in Rosny and Lindisfarne. He stated he would also knock on front doors to ascertain if anyone was home and if anyone answered the door he would allege that he had lost his dog.
This male person has been charged by Bellerive Police and will appear in the Hobart Court of Petty Sessions.
Police are asking for assistance from the public in reporting any suspicious persons or vehicles seen in these areas, particularly taking note of any persons knocking on doors without valid reason.
