Home burglary arrests
Since the 1 May 2012, there has been a spate of home burglaries and car burglaries in the Howrah, Warrane, Rose Bay and Lindisfarne areas. Person/s were entering the premises when the occupants were not home, with a number of these crimes occurring whilst the residents had left their house for short durations.
As a result of police responding to information provided by the public, the following separate arrests have been made be Eastern District CIB Detectives in the last six weeks in relation to house burglaries committed in these suburbs by five separate groups:
- Three male youths were charged with six home burglaries
- A Female teenager and adult male with two home burglaries
- A male teenager with four home burglaries
- An adult male with four home burglaries
- A female adult has been charged on the 28 June 12 with ten home burglaries
In relation to yesterday's arrest, information provided by members of the public directly attributed to the offender being apprehended in close proximity to the home burglary which then led investigators to link this with the other nine home burglaries committed in the last four days. The female has been given police bail with strict bail conditions and will appear on the 27 July 2012 at the Hobart Magistrates Court on these matters.
With these results, there has been a noticeable decrease in criminal activities in the area.
Police are still asking the public in these suburbs to continue to be vigilant and report suspicious persons and vehicles so that police can attend as the incident is occurring and investigate the information. The assistance provided by the public previously, has been invaluable to aid in these apprehensions. Particularly important is to contact police at the time the incident occurs and to pay particular attention to person and vehicle descriptions, registrations and observations of their conduct.
It is important that members of the public ensure their houses are locked when they are out, keys left outside are not kept in obvious locations and where possible, areas around house are well lit at night time. Importantly, that windows are locked, not overlooking those in the laundry and bathroom.
