Home Burglary Arrest

In the early hours of Saturday 10th November 2012 a man entered a house in Bellerive to commit a burglary.  At this time the occupants of the residence were present and were awoken by the male.  During the course of the burglary, one of the residents was assaulted as the offender attempted to flee.

This male attempted to obtain goods from several Hobart City stores on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th November 2012 using cards stolen from the burglary.  At this time the male person was captured on CCTV footage.

Police held concerns in relation to this person’s propensity towards violence and appealed to the public for assistance in locating the male via the media on Friday 16 November 2012.

On Saturday17th November 2012 at 1215pm, after approximately a dozen relevant calls from the public, the 30 year old male depicted in the CCTV footage and photograph releases was arrested in a public park at Rosetta.

He has been charged with aggravated robbery, unlawfully possess a dangerous article in a public place, aggravated burglary (2 counts), stealing (2 counts), trespass, use a controlled drug and attempt to obtain goods by false pretences (3 counts).

The second count of aggravated burglary relates to a second house that was entered earlier in the night on the 10th November 2012.

The male will be detained to appear in court on Sunday morning the 18 November 2012.

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance, which facilitated the quick apprehension of the offender.  The information received directly attributed to this outcome.

“This type of crime is rare in which an occupant in their house is assaulted by an intruder.  It is most distressing for the victims, however, the best outcome for the victim and strongest deterrent to people being tempted to commit these types of crimes, is the very real prospect of being arrested and held to account for their actions.”
