Hoax call charge
About 9.20 pm on 19 March 2012 a Triple Zero call was received by the Police radio room with the male caller reporting a boat had run aground on Bruny Island.
The male caller stated a male with him had been injured.
Subsequently, a land, sea and air search of North Bruny and surrounding areas was commenced that night involving two police vessels and the Rescue Helicopter before being called off at 2 am with no sign of the boat.
The search was continued the following day without locating the vessel.
An investigation into the matter has resulted in the identification of the 17 year old male offender. The male will be proceeded against under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act for making a false report to police.
There were several calls to police from members of the public and police would like to publicly acknowledge that assistance.
