High winds Southern Tasmania

The SES and Tasmania Police are advising all schools to provide advice to students that due to the continuing high winds in Southern Tasmania to be careful when leaving school this afternoon.

Children and students who walk home should walk in open areas where there are not a lot of trees and stay away from fallen power lines, trees, branches and building materials.

If anything dangerous is seen they should tell a parent if not old enough to report it themselves.

SES advises members of the public to:

• Secure all loose items outside including garden furniture, umbrellas etc
• Make sure your pets are well secured • Check your house and trees for damage
• If driving or walking beware of fallen power lines
• Unless your trip is urgent, consider staying inside while the high winds continue
• Listen to the radio or check the Bureau of Meteorology for weather updates
