High Speed Motorcyclist on East Derwent Highway

This afternoon (Saturday 9/4/2016) police detected a motorcycle travelling at 163km/h on the East Derwent Highway at Risdon Vale, east of Hobart.   This motorcycle was safely intercepted and the 21 year old male rider spoken to by Police.

 

Senior Constable Drew Redburn said “This provisional motorcyclist who was carrying a pillion passenger, was riding a high powered motorcycle, in excess of twice his allowable speed limit.  Travelling at this speed not only placed his life and that of his passenger in significant danger, but also the lives of other road users.”

 

The rider will be summonsed to appear in the Hobart Court of Petty Sessions at a later date.  His motorcycle has been impounded by Police due to the excessive speed.  Police did not pursue this motorcycle and it was safely intercepted a short time later.
