High Speed Detections at Huon Highway, Sandfly and Longley intersections
On the 13th of January 2019 two separate high speed incidents were detected by police on the Huon Highway in the vicinity of the Sandfly and Longley intersections.
Around 3:50pm a 24 year old Kaoota man was detected on a black Husqvarna motorcycle traveling south towards Huonville at 180km per hour in the 100km zone. The male was intercepted by police and will be summoned to attend court in relation to the offence.
In a separate incident at around 8:40pm Police observed a green Mazda 626 sedan travelling south on the Huon Highway approaching the Sandfly and Longley intersections.
The vehicle was first detected travelling at 150km per hour and then at a top speed of 195km per hour in the 100km per hour zone.
A 31 year old Longley man was located and will face court in relation to the high speed offence. The green Mazda 626 was clamped by police for a period of 28 days due to the speed in which the vehicle was caught travelling.
This vehicle passed a number of other motorists at the time and police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the manner of driving and are urged to contact Sergeant McCulloch at Southern Road and Public Order Services on 131 444.
Police are pleading with motorists to abide by the signed speed limits and to drive to the weather conditions at all times.
