High speed detection of a learner motorcyclist
At approximately 3.30 pm this afternoon, Smithton Police detected a motor cyclist travelling at 177km per hour on the Bass Highway west of Stanley turnoff.
The rider, a 21 year old Stanley man, is the holder of a learner’s licence restricting his speed to 80 km per hour. The motorcycle was seized and the rider will appear at court at a later date for speeding, and further offences including riding a motorcycle which is not LAMS approved.
At the time of the offence the weather conditions were windy, with gusts of up to 60 km per hour.
