High range drink driver caught five times over the limit twice in 12 hours

A 44-year-old woman from Deloraine has been caught drink driving more than five times the legal alcohol limit twice in 12 hours.

About 11.30pm on Friday night police intercepted a vehicle in Deloraine where the driver returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.270 – more than five times the legal limit.

The woman was arrested and charged with drink driving and immediately disqualified from driving for two years.

Less than twelve hours later at 11.00am yesterday, police received reports of an SUV driving dangerously in the Deloraine area.

Investigations revealed it was the same vehicle intercepted on Friday night and was allegedly being driven by the same woman.

The woman was arrested and returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.258 – five times the legal limit for the second time.

She was charged with a range of offences, including drink driving and driving whilst disqualified and was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Inspector Grant Twining said it is disappointing and inexcusable that some members of the public continue to ignore the drink driving laws and put themselves, their family and the rest of the community at risk.”

“Our message cannot be clearer – you cannot drive safely if you have been drinking. If you want to drink alcohol, then do not drive”.
